Tácticas simples y saludables para su sistema de defensas

Simple and healthy tactics for your immune system

Foolproof defense system

The only real defense that exists today against COVID-19 infection is your immune system. My job is to show you all the alternatives I know of so that you have your defense system working at 100% and if you do happen to get infected, it can go out and do what it does best: defend your body.

The last few weeks have been quite a process for everyone and according to testimonies and experiences in many countries, it is urgent to carry out tests , but there are several obstacles.

First, the test is only done when the doctor prescribes it to the patient because he or she considers, based on the symptoms, that he or she may be infected. The director of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases and Allergies of the United States, Anthony Fauci, explains that no “test” is 100% accurate so it is not worth doing the test if you do not have the symptoms because, you could be carrying the virus in the incubation period, then the test will be negative (false negative), but, while you continue your life calmly, after a short time it will be positive and in the process, you will have infected every person with whom you have had contact in that period. ( 1 )

Now, this is what the Washington Post says, the truth is we don't know if it is a strategy so that people don't rush to get their test, but, what is certain is that for now there are not enough test kits and they have to be reserved, mainly, for medical personnel since they are the most exposed.

Second, a COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be ready in 12-18 months and that, unfortunately, cannot be accelerated.

In the end, we will have the vaccine. The problem is that, even if the vaccine works well, it will not confer unlimited immunity to a virus that will mutate in any case. The best option is to develop natural immunity.

Being at home, understanding that we are potential asymptomatic carriers, our goal must be to maintain social distancing, the required hygiene and a rock-solid immune system.

Dr. Andrew Saul, editor-in-chief of the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service in the United States, notes that,

“When you are exposed naturally, whether you get sick or not, you develop immunity to this strain (there are two known strains of this virus so far), but it is an expanded immunity to more viruses in general. There is no better way to avoid getting sick than to get sick, which sounds a little strange, but it is the way the body works.”

The reason why recovering from an infection gives you lifelong immunity while the vaccine does not is because the immune system has two branches: the cellular branch (T cells) and the humoral branch (B cells); and both need to be activated to ensure long-term immunity.

When you get vaccinated, only humoral immunity is activated, the B cells and not the T cells. So, although it sounds terrible, it is better to let the virus hit you when it is your turn, but to have a well-strengthened immune system so that the symptoms do not manifest or are very mild.

In conclusion: calm down and let's get to work on a strong immune system.

Calm down

One of the techniques to reduce stress and anxiety comes from Native Americans and involves going outside, sitting in the grass and leaning your back against a pine tree.

There are also short and very calming meditations that can be found on YouTube. I would like to include one here that is specifically designed to strengthen the immune system.

Supplements and strategies

In addition to the COVID-19 prevention protocol that I propose, studies and experiments carried out in China, South Korea (a country that had the outbreak at the same time as Italy and Iran, but its number of deaths rose to only 200 on the day I published this article ( 2 )), are doing treatments with high doses of vitamin C, for example, with encouraging results.

Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid)

Studies have shown that even 200 mg per day of vitamin C can reduce the mortality rate in older adults with severe pneumonia by 80%.

It should be understood that it is not the coronavirus itself that kills people, it is pneumonia and SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) as a consequence. Most people who get infected with coronavirus will have mild symptoms, others will not. will have symptoms. It is not known how many people there are because they DO NOT HAVE SYMPTOMS but they may be carriers of the virus.

There are several protocols that include intravenous vitamin C with hydrocortisone and vitamin B1 that have been proven to significantly improve survival rates in patients with sepsis since it is one of the reasons why patients infected with COVID-19 die.

The recommendation is that you do NOT take mega doses of vitamin C permanently, except when you have flu symptoms or discomfort . Otherwise, take only the dose you are used to, whether it is 200, 500, 1000 mg, and that you know helps keep your body slightly alkaline.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is considered to be of great importance for the prevention of COVID-19 and although there is no specific research on the effect of this vitamin on the virus, there is a lot of information that demonstrates the importance of this vitamin in treating influenza and upper respiratory tract infections.

In principle, vitamin D does not seem to have a direct effect on COVID-19, but rather it strengthens the immune system, making the host organism able to fight the virus more effectively. In addition, vitamin D slows down inflammatory processes . Together with vitamin C, they make a good protective team.

It is clear that a strong immune system is needed for the body to withstand the onslaught of the virus, but an overactive immune response system or cytokine storm and lymphopenia (lack of white blood cells), which are the disorders that most affect young COVID-19 patients, are the specific causes of their becoming critically ill. ( article )

We need an intuitive immune system that can fight off the virus, but not leave us in an inflammatory condition that forces us to go on a ventilator. Vitamin D can be effective in this, even more so if it is in its natural form, which is sunlight, but if it is not accessible, a supplement is appropriate.

Magnesium

Magnesium is another immune-boosting mineral. There are three ways to obtain its immune-boosting and relaxing benefits. In food, orally (600 mg daily), or through effervescent tablets (improves absorption) and foot or tub baths with magnesium salts (magnesium sulfate).

Foods that contain magnesium include green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale; peas, broccoli, asparagus, artichokes and Brussels sprouts.

Fruits such as avocado, figs and raspberries.

Nuts and seeds.

Zinc chewable lozenges

Zinc is needed for the immune system to function properly. It plays an important role in cell division, cell growth, wound healing, and the breakdown of carbohydrates in the body. Zinc is also needed for the senses of smell and taste, especially since it has recently been discovered that one of the symptoms of COVID-19 is the loss of these two senses.

The daily maintenance dose of zinc for women is 8-10 mg per day and for men 11-15 mg.

Heat therapies

Fever is an important part of your body's defense system. For this reason, it is highly recommended to use a sauna or one of its variations such as the Inipi and temazcal because increasing the body's temperature on a regular basis helps prevent infections.

Elevated body temperature allows white blood cells to more easily identify and eliminate virus-infected cells. Drugs sold to reduce fever interfere with this important natural process, allowing the infection to last longer and cause more damage in the process.

A number of studies have shown that treating fever with medication can prolong and exacerbate the illness. A better alternative, as long as the fever is not dangerously high, is to get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids, and let it do its job, as stated by the American Academy of Pediatrics ( 3 ).

Furthermore, heat shock proteins are known to protect against septic shock injuries, one of the fatal causes of COVID-19.

Recent reports demonstrate that the expression of many heat shock proteins induced by fever and acting against the elevation of oxidative damage is of concern because suppressing the expression of these proteins (i.e., by providing an antipyretic such as ibuprofen) may actually potentiate adverse effects when treating sepsis .

Thus, when the body's temperature rises, either due to fever or sauna use, heat shock proteins are activated and, in their effect, suppress the replication of the virus.( 4)

Unfortunately, many people today do not have access to sauna therapy, Inipi or temazcal. However, there is the original option, which is exercise, which requires around 30 minutes to allow you to sweat profusely in order to activate certain heat shock proteins, mainly HSP 60 and 70 with a more moderate activation in the smaller HSPs.

It is advisable to do moderate exercise during this time, for example, 30-40 minute walks, if lockdown measures allow in your area. Otherwise, there are videos and tutorials on Youtube for all levels of exercise at home; as well as Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga classes that incorporate breathing and transition movements between yoga postures.

Remember that you need to make adaptations. It is not advisable to go out running if you are not used to it. You should start with fast walks, then incorporate short sprints before jogging for a long distance. The same applies to other exercises.

Finally, the avalanche of information about what works and what doesn't work to prevent or treat infections leaves us with a latent feeling of confusion. I have heard doctors, journalists, influencers and others, disparaging the benefits of some home remedies and later on another programme, endorsing their benefits.

As Dr. Bruce Lipton, a physician at Stanford University in Connecticut, says in his book “Biology of Belief”:

“Brain cells translate mental perceptions of the world (beliefs) into unique and complementary chemical profiles that, when secreted into the blood, control the destiny of 50 trillion cells in the body.”

This means that whatever you BELIEVE is beneficial for your body, for your being, your body will believe and act according to this belief.

So listen to your body: if you believe that the vitamin C in lemons will give you the protection you need against infection, because you have experienced it before, or it is a family tradition, or because you have been informed about it, then it will be so.

If you firmly believe that meditating or praying and connecting with the Creator will protect you from illness, then so be it. Don't let the flood of different information disturb your calm. Do the things you know and believe can keep you and your family in good health. It's proven. ( 4 )
